Green Maintenance

March is ending, wrapping up another resolution: greening your ride. By now, you have altered your driving behavior, eliminated idling, and planned for efficient long distance travel. Last, but not least is maintaining your car. Regular car maintenance makes sense in many ways, including extending the life of your car, but it also will increase your car’s efficiency.

  • Keep your tires inflated. For every 3 pounds below recommended pressure, fuel economy goes down by about 1 percent.

  • Get regular tune-ups and oil changes. Regular maintenance keeps your car running at peak efficiency.

  • Do not overfill the gas tank. Spilled fuel can contribute to pollution in the air and in the groundwater.

  • Do not use premium octane gas unless your car requires it.

  • And don’t forget to dispose of vehicle fluids properly!
