Green Your Ride

It’s March! Time for a new resolution for the month. While we would all love to be able to buy the newest hybrid vehicle, or be able to walk or bike wherever we go, it’s not always possible. This month, try to take simple actions to reduce the impact your transportation has on the environment.  Start with the easiest ways to increase your current car’s efficiency:

Zen Driving
Driving in traffic is a stressful activity no one enjoys. Aggressive driving with fast starts and stops is not only stressful, but wastes gas and increases pollution rates. Accept your place on the road and drive calmly to save some green and be green.

Lighten Up
Is your car a mobile storage unit? Every extra pound decreases your fuel efficiency. Unload the junk in the trunk and save on gas and emissions.

Obey the Law
Slow down, lead foot! It’s true- speeding increases your gas usage dramatically. For every 5 mph above 65, expect a 5% decrease in efficiency (and a ticket!).

Stay on Top of It
Track your fuel efficiency regularly. If you notice a dip, it might indicate a car problem. Stay on track with regular maintenance to maximize your car’s performance and efficiency.

Check back next week for more tips on greening your ride!
