Winter Adventures at Lyman Woods

While others are dreading the cold and snow, we here at Lyman Woods are anxiously awaiting winter so we can go out and play! We have an exciting winter lined up at Lyman Woods with several new programs. Here's a sampling of the winter fun you can have at Lyman Woods:

  • Families can shake off the winter doldrums on an Owl Prowl during our January 11 Goodnight Twilight Hike or take part in our new Winter Geocaching program on January 25th. Geocaching is fun and easy for new beginners and all ages!

  • Looking for something to do with your tot after the holiday magic wears off? Big Bug Little Bug, Nature Tot Workshop and Wee Wilderness Weekends pick up where they left off starting in January.

  • Have stir crazy older kids? Trailblazer Adventure Club explores the winter woods afterschool, while Wild Day Off fills winter school holidays with snowy adventures!

  • This January marks the start of a brand new adult program at Lyman Woods. Marge Trocki will be leading our new 6-week Beginner Beekeeping Course for ages 16 and up. Learn everything you need to know to start your own honeybee hives!

  • Take our American Red Cross Wilderness & Remote First Aid certification course on February 22-23 to prepare for your spring and summer adventures! Whether an avid outdoor adventurer, a scout or leader, or a family camper, anyone who works and plays in the outdoors should be prepared for an emergency.

Check out the winter Recreation & Parks Guide for details about all of these programs and more! Click here to register online or call the Interpretive Center for more information.

And of course, Snowshoes for adults and children are available for rent during regular Interpretive Center hours when there are 4 inches of snow or more. Snowshoes are easy for beginners, and are a fun way to explore the winter woods (while burning off holiday meal calories!). Guided snowshoe hikes are scheduled for January 4 and 18 at 9:15 am. Contact the Interpretive Center at 630.963.9388 for more information about snowshoeing.
