Yellow Jacket Season

It's that time of year when yellow jackets are particularly active. Yellow jackets, wasps and hornets look very similar, and can be easily confused with honeybees!

If you have something like this being built under your eves or in your attic, it's not likely to be honeybees! Wasps, hornets and yellow jackets have papery, grayish nests, rather than wax comb.

If you have noticed some buzzing neighbors moving in, please take a moment to check the insect before calling your local beekeeper.

If you believe you do have honeybees, a list of beekeepers that catch swarms in DuPage County and surrounding counties can be found by on the website of the Cook-DuPage Beekeepers Association.
