Hooves & Hives

What season is it?  Thunder in January!? A hike today out to the bee hives revealed that the honeybees are taking advantage of these recent warm days. With temperatures near 60 degrees, they were observed taking turns flying in and out of the hives. They certainly are not looking for nectar or pollen this time of year. They are so intent on keeping a tidy hive, they "hold it" and patiently wait for these warm days to fly out of the hive and relieve themselves!

Look closely...can you see the bee?
Now look again...can you find her poop splat on the hive?

As the bees were busy, a white-tailed deer meandered in front of the hives. She moved slowly and fearlessly, crossing right through the flight pattern of the bees. It makes you wonder what the relationship is between these hoofed animals and these tiny winged creatures during the many hours that are not observed by human eyes!
