Green Travel

This month we have been featuring tips on how to green your ride for the March monthly resolution. Changing driving behavior and eliminating idle time are great ways to increase your vehicle’s efficiency, but what about when you use other modes of mass transportation, like vacation travel? Here are a few tips to keep in mind while you get ready for spring break:

  • Stay close. Visit those places nearby that you have always wanted to see.
  •
  • Take the train. Besides being one of the greenest ways to travel, you can sit back and watch the landscape change.
  •
  • Choose environmentally friendly airlines and book non-stop flights when possible.
  •
  • Pack light. Additional weight leads to reduced fuel efficiency whether in your car or on a plane. Take only what you truly need, save on baggage fees and enjoy the liberating experience of living with fewer possessions (at least for a short time!).

  •  Rent a hybrid car when you reach your destination. Better yet, use local public transportation, rent bicycles, and hike to see the sights.
