SPRING WORKDAY at Lyman Woods

Join the R.E.A.P. (Restore Educate and Preserve) Volunteer Crew on April 12th at Lyman Woods from 8-10:30 AM for the site’s first group restoration project of 2014.
Our last Lyman Woods workday was in November, when we had a turnout of over 30 people. Our volunteers ranged from teenagers to seniors, as they often do. We had local residents who had never volunteered, and others who have been here many years prior to the Interpretive Center. We also had a group of volunteers from Midwestern University’s Students for Environmental Awareness and Action (SEAA) who are planning to work at Lyman Woods again this spring. After dividing into three groups we were able to accomplish a substantial amount of brush cutting and invasive species removal - primarily just to the east of the Oak Kame, which is centrally located in the preserve.

If you would like to help improve this unique natural area, meet fellow area residents, spend time outside, learn to work with simple tools, or accomplish service hours for a class or scout rank then please contact us today.

Signing up is simple. Call the William F. Sherman Interpretive Center any day during regular hours at 630-963-9388, or email Volunteer Coordinator Ben Schubert at bschubert@dgparks.org. Your email address and telephone number are the only pieces of information needed to sign up.

Don’t forget to wear closed toe shoes and expect muddy conditions!
