Summer Camp, Week 3

We wrapped up the third week of camp on Friday! Click "read more" to check out what we did!

Paws & Claws learned all about mammals, including some hands-on learning about camouflage!

How many campers can you find?

Jr. Beekeepers showed their creative side painting hive boxes

They also got a chance to harvest (and take home!) some of the first honey of the summer

Uncapping the wax comb on a frame filled with honey
Bottling honey after extraction

It takes a lot of concentration!
Decorating labels for their honey bottles
Jr. Beekeepers' Honey Harvest 2014!
Examining a drone (male honeybee) up-close
Drones lack stingers, unlike female honeybees (workers & queens)

Trail Trekkers learned all about different kinds of navigation, then put their new skills to the test in an end-of-week challenge!

They deciphered clues and riddles...
used their compasses...
and their maps!
Camp Leader Brad giving some helpful hints
Taking group photos can be a little challenging!

The campers found some awesome wildlife, like this cleverly camouflaged toad:

And, as always, had lots of fun free-exploring in the Wild Woods!

Man! It's exhausting having so much fun!

Thanks for joining us! There's one more week of camp left, and registration is still open! Click here to see all of our summer camps & register online or call the Interpretive Center at 630.963.9388 for more information.
