Kick Off Your Adventure at the Interpretive Center!

Two and a half miles of trails winding throughout 150 acres of woodland, wetland and meadows – there’s so much to explore at Lyman Woods! To enrich your experience, stop in the Interpretive Center before your hike and learn a bit more about Lyman Woods. Short videos can be viewed in the lobby that will provide information about the specific habitats that make up the preserve, its geological history, and even the nearby Belmont Prairie that is also managed by the Downers Grove Park District.

Enter our multi-purpose room and say hello to our resident honeybees, turtle, millipedes, beetles and worms. Then check out the seasonal interpretive panels and displays. If you are a kid at heart, put on a woodland puppet show, read a story, and create a seasonal craft.

Stop back upon returning from your walk! We want to hear about your adventure. Record any wildlife you saw on our whiteboard. For birders, we have a log specific to birds. If you need help identifying what you saw, ask our staff. We also have a collection of identification books available for use. And of course, leave us your thoughts and ideas. We value your input as we strive to make your visit the best ever!
